My Arts Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy (like any teacher's should be) is constantly evolving and progressing with each passing moment. At this point in time, my philosophy can be encapsulated into one sentence: "Provide students with the potential to maximize their opportunities." This is not a quote I stumbled upon, but rather a sentence I have formed throughout my time in the Education program. I believe the North American education system has many flaws, and while we are heading in the right direction, there is still a stigma lingering around with the idea that the arts are nothing other than a useless grade booster. This is despite the fact that the arts have proven to be beneficial in multiple areas of youth development. Through my teaching philosophy, students will be able to think in new ways, connect the body and mind, create stronger relationships with peers, build self-confidence, and become stronger students as well as citizens. The bases to these assets can all be established within the classroom, where the students will be able to see their self-worth, which is something that can last a lifetime with every individual.
